How to control multiple campaigns displaying simultaneously

By default, Digioh shows only one campaign at a time. If the Display Rules pass for two campaigns, the highest-priority campaign appears first; when the visitor closes it, the second campaign appears. This guide explains how to allow campaigns to display at the same time and how to use the Restrict Campaign Simultaneous Display Extension to keep fine-grained control over which campaigns can co-display.

Step 1: Enable simultaneous display in your Sitewide Rule

  1. In the campaign list, select Sitewide Rules under the More dropdown.
Sitewide Rules highlighted in the More dropdown of the campaign list menu
  2. Enable "Allow multiple campaigns to be displayed simultaneously." This turns off Digioh's default one-campaign-at-a-time restriction, so any campaigns whose Display Rules pass will show together.

Important: Turning on this setting without also completing Step 2 can cause two pop-up campaigns to overlap on screen. Complete Step 2 to keep that from happening.

Step 2: Install the Restrict Campaign Simultaneous Display Extension

This extension restores fine-grained control once simultaneous display is turned on. It always keeps two pop-up campaigns from displaying together, and lets you set additional rules for banners and sidebars.

  1. Select Extensions under the account dropdown.

  2. In the Campaign Display Customization section, find Restrict Campaign Simultaneous Display.

  3. Click Install, then Publish to Your Site.

Note: Once installed, this extension always blocks two pop-up campaigns from displaying at the same time. This rule is built in and applies automatically. It cannot be turned off or overridden for individual campaigns.

Step 3: Fine-tune display restrictions per campaign (optional)

Pop-up campaigns are always restricted from displaying together, as described above. To control simultaneous display for banner and sidebar campaigns, add the multidisplay_restrict metadata value to a campaign under Campaign Metadata (located under Settings > Campaign Settings).

Metadata value Behavior
multidisplay_restrict : type

Blocks this campaign from opening if another campaign of the same type is already open. This works both ways: if either campaign has this value set, the two cannot display together.

multidisplay_restrict : true (or another restricting value)

Blocks this campaign from opening if any other restricted campaign is already open. This also works both ways: if either campaign has a restricting value set, the two cannot display together.

multidisplay_restrict : false or 0

Explicitly exempts this campaign from the restriction, even if the other campaign has a restricting value set. Use this to carve out an exception for one campaign.

(not set)

No restriction applied from this setting. The campaign can still be blocked by the built-in pop-up rule described above.

Important Notes

  1. The restriction works both ways. If either campaign in a pair has a restricting value set, the two cannot display together, even if the other campaign has no metadata at all. You only need to set the value on one campaign to restrict the pair.
  2. Inline campaigns are exempt from these restrictions. Metadata applied to an inline campaign has no effect.
  3. These settings apply per campaign only. There is no account-wide default. To apply a restriction broadly, add the metadata value to each campaign individually.

Tip: Restriction rules do not apply while previewing a campaign in Digioh’s Preview mode. To confirm your multidisplay_restrict setup is working, test it on your live site rather than relying on Preview.

That’s it, you now have control over which campaigns can display together. Need a hand? Reach out to support@digioh.com.
